javascript, box castles, and polish movie posters

 lou grappling with advanced technology

most of the time preparing this blog was trying to make a little app for the blog that is a sliding tile game of lou's face. we scoured the internet for a script that lets you put in your own picture but it was not to be found.
So we dug into the code of an existing game and borrowed code liberally and tried to fill in the rest. This seemed like cake because, as we all know, lou is a crackerjack programmer who speaks html and javascript as well as ruby, php, ajax, bash-shell, objective-c, python, perl, fortran, lisp, and cat++. We came very close but there is some little thing that is keeping it from compiling like a missing semicolon or something so it is still incomplete,
but as soon as we finish it, you dear readers, will be the first to know.

here's what it looks like:

finished it's supposed to look like this:
but it doesn't...yet!

here are some sweet cat houses I found on x-tremegeek.com.

they are almost as good as the one we made from the boxes I used to move to this apartment:

stay tuned for a brand new cardboard box castle, as we are moving in august to a fly new apartment with our boy Beans.

I dont know why we chose this picture, probably because its sweet.
We're going to buy this poster for our house:

it's a poster (in polish) for the play (that I've seen) of the book (my favorite book) Mikhail Bulkagov's "the master and margarita". In case you didn't know, Polish film, theatre, and opera posters are strange and awesome. you should seriously check out:
The Polish Poster Shop It's pretty rad.

here are three other possibilities:

yellow submarine

don quixote

and the magic flute

pretty sweet.

also this is lou the person in the picture:

yeah!

Jah bless.

roller derby, götterdämerung, and hairball bombardment

Readers, who are so dear to both of us Lous here in madison wi,

this weekend lou and I went with some buddies (julian, betsy, arthur, and mary) to the Windy City Rollers roller derby.

roller derby, if you're not familiar, is awesome. tough empowered women in booty shorts circle around in roller skates and knock each other over, or make daring jukes passing other skaters to score points. if you are interested in the rules click over here.

the players had super rad names like:
hermione danger, brawla poundstone, nancy pagan, unicoroner, tina flay, ruth enasia, justice feelgood marshall, beaster bunny, beth amphetamine, rose feratu, sixteen scandals, and t.s. helliot.

Lou played too his name was felon keller.

Lou and I listened to Götterdämmerung from start to finish the other day. it's the fourth and final opera in wagner's ring cycle.

the title means "twilight of the gods" which is sweet. it's about five hours long and it has, according to my opera professor, the most outrageously impossible stage directions ever, which occur at the very end of the opera. keep in mind this is supposed to happen on stage. here they are:

[Brünhilde] swings herself onto the horse and makes it leap into the burning pyre. The Rhine overflows its bank in a mighty wave bearing the Rhine-maidens on its crest.
Woglinde and Welgunde throw their arms around Hagen and draw him into the depths; Flosshilde holds up the recovered ring exultantly. The firelight grows in the heavens until the flames are seen to seize upon Valhalla itself and the gods assembled burn.

far out!
